Why do I need to enter a secondary form of payment when using SNAP EBT?

Your additional payment method will be used for any remaining total not covered by the EBT card amount applied to your order, including:

Items not eligible for SNAP EBT.
Delivery, service, and other applicable fees (i.e., government regulatory fees).
Additional products added after placing your order that exceed your original SNAP EBT charged total.
The difference in weight for any price-per-pound items, if the purchased item exceed the weight you selected when ordering and the new order total exceeds your original SNAP EBT charged total.
Any tip you add for your shopper.

When will my SNAP EBT card be charged after I place an order?
- Your EBT card will be charged as soon as your order is created. If any items paid for with your EBT card are out of stock or unable to be delivered you’ll receive a refund for those items and a refund receipt will be sent to the email associated with your Shipt account.

Do I need a Shipt membership to use my SNAP EBT card for grocery delivery?
- No, a Shipt membership is not required to shop with your SNAP EBT card. However, you will need a Shipt account to place an order. You would also need a second form of payment for any delivery fees, service fees, tips, etc. One benefit of purchasing a membership is $0 delivery fees on orders of $35 or more.

What if I want only to use some of my SNAP benefits or don't have enough funds to cover my order balance?
- You can edit the amount you want to charge to your EBT card at checkout:
  - Tap Change next to your payment method.
  - Toggle the “Split payments” option to on.
  - Enter the amount you’d like to charge to your EBT card. Please note that EBT funds can only be applied to eligible items.
